Central Bedfordshire Council: Household Support Fund telephone scam - Be Scam Aware
Date Added: 21/10/2022
Act with caution if you receive a suspicious telephone call
We are advising elderly residents to act with caution if they receive an unexpected telephone call from someone claiming you are entitled to an extra payment under the Household Support Fund.
Trading Standards have been made aware of some residents receiving a suspicious call, using a with-held number, whereby the caller clams to be from Age UK. The caller informs residents that they could receive £200 that same day if they provided the caller with their bank card details immediately.
Household Support Fund payments are not paid on the same day and bank card details are not required.
If you receive a suspicious call like this and unsure whether the caller is genuine or not, do not provide your bank card details. Simply end the call so you can contact the agency the caller was claiming to represent to verify whether they were indeed contacting you.
Please help protect others, by letting your family, friends and neighbours know about this alert.
